Understanding the BISP Kafalat Program and Eligibility

The BISP Kafalat program works to identify and support Pakistan’s most vulnerable families. The eligibility of a household is determined through a detailed survey that creates the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER). This registry is the core database for all government welfare schemes.

During the survey, the Poverty Measurement Tool (PMT) score is calculated for each household. This score, which is based on factors like income, assets, and living conditions, helps the government identify those who truly need assistance. Only families with a PMT score below a specific threshold are approved for the program.

The New BISP Kafalat Payment: Rs. 13,500 Update

For the current payment cycle, the government has announced a quarterly installment of Rs. 13,500 for all eligible families. This payment is part of the ongoing BISP Phase 2 disbursement, which aims to ensure timely financial aid reaches beneficiaries across the country.

It’s also important to note that if you missed a previous payment due to a technical issue or an incomplete verification process, you may be eligible to receive a double payment this time around, which would amount to Rs. 27,000.

How to Check Your Status Using the 8171 Web Portal

To make the process more transparent and accessible, BISP has made it easy to check your payment status from home. The most official and user-friendly method is through the 8171 Web Portal.

Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to using the portal:

  1. Visit the Official Portal: Go to the official BISP 8171 Web Portal by typing “8171.bisp.gov.pk” into your browser.
  2. Enter Your CNIC: On the homepage, you will see a form. Enter your 13-digit CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) number into the designated field without any dashes.
  3. Solve the Captcha: You will be asked to enter a security code or a captcha shown in an image. This is to verify that you are a real user.
  4. Check Your Status: Click the “Submit” or “Check Status” button. The portal will then display your eligibility and payment details.

Checking Your Status via SMS with Your CNIC

If you don’t have access to the internet, you can still check your status using your mobile phone. Simply send your 13-digit CNIC number via SMS to the official code, 8171.

Within a few minutes, you will receive an official message from 8171 confirming whether you are eligible and if your payment is ready for collection. This is a very convenient option for people in remote areas.

NADRA Biometric Verification: A Mandatory Step

A key update for the August 2025 payment is the mandatory NADRA Biometric Verification. This measure has been introduced to ensure that the payments are given to the correct individuals and to prevent fraud.

To collect your Rs. 13,500 payment, you must complete this verification process at a BISP payment center or an HBL Konnect agent. The system will match your fingerprints with the data stored in the NADRA database.

If your biometric verification fails, don’t worry. This usually means your fingerprints need to be updated. In this case, you should visit the nearest NADRA office to have your fingerprints rescanned and your record updated. After that, you can return to the payment center to try again.
